What are Backlinks?
Backlinks is a significant factor that can impact ranking of a website on search engines. Backlinks are the links from a website to your website. Backlinks are effective to increase the traffic to your website. We can create backlinks for a website, which is known as link building or off-page SEO. That is, simply a website get reference from other websites. There is a concept associated with backlinks i.e., Referring Domains. These are the domains from which the backlink is created. You can create multiple links from a domain. Let’s say, if you have published a blog on www.example.com and made 4 links. Then, you have 4 backlinks from a referring domain.
While building links on other sites, try to build from websites having high domain authority (DA). This will increase credibility and trust on Google and domain authority of the website will increase subsequently. And as a result, ranking of your website will be boosted. Some SEOs concentrate to build many backlinks as possible. Actually, it is not the exact way. Search engines consider quality over quantity. So, the links must have quality and should be genuine. Don’t create backlinks on websites that are irrelevant to your niche. These links will be considered as spammy or manipulative backlinks.
Ways to Build Backlinks
- Guest blogging

- Business listing/Directory submission

- Question-Answer sites
Now let’s have a look at Do-follow and No-follow backlinks…
When a website is linked to another website, it may be dofollow or nofollow. Links that pass authority from the origin website to the destination website are dofollow backlinks. Passing of authority is termed as link juice. Dofollow links help to increase domain authority and this will boost keyword ranking on SERP.
A nofollow link doesn’t pass authority to the destination website. So, these links don’t help to improve ranking of a website. But nofollow links can be used in some instance. If you don’t want to pass authority, you can use nofollow. When the links are sponsored, affiliate or user-generated content nofollow links can be used.
